A windy day with very nice ice that became a little wet in the afternoon due to the milder weather. The weather forecast is predicting both rain and snow during the week and colder the upcoming weekend. We are confident with the thickness of the ice and hope that the surface will be good on the race day Sunday the 20th of February. Today (Monday) it's raining.
We will limit the number of participants in Sigtunarännet to maximum 600 so please register as soon as possible to secure your participation. The ordinary registration will close on Saturday 23:59 or when the race is full (600 participants) but if their are still tickets left on Sunday you might register for an increased fee (total 800SEK) on the race day. See you on Sunday. ? : @afagerang
Now evening of Feb 15. There is a layer of liquid water over much of the ice at Sigtunafjärden and Garnsviken. Temperatures predicted to hover at or above freezing until the night of 19-20 Feb. During that night before Sigtunarännet, temp predicted to drop to -4 C. Can we expect “dubbelis” and would the ice resurfacing truck mitigate? Any ice reports Saturday?
Thanks for your question Dominic-Luc. It is currently very difficult to predict the weather for the weekend because the forecast changes quickly. It will certainly not be any problem with the thickness of the ice. The things that could stop the race is (1) double ice (i.e. a thin layer of ice upon water and then the thick ice below the water) or, (2) snow that fall on water and freezes together which make it difficult to plough. With the current forecast we are quite certain that the thin layer of water on the ice will freeze to a solid ice, but if the temperture raises to -1 degree Celsius, or if it will be lots of rain the days prior to the race, it might be double ice. We are hopeful and keep our fingers crossed.
