Today, Sigtuna Municipality has plowed an ice track from Sigtuna via Munkholmen and onwards to Flottvik. Yesterday, they plowed the track from the city to Sjudargårdsbadet and back. In total, approximately 20 km has been plowed.
The ice is generally good and mostly free from major cracks, but there are some areas with frozen “slush ice” (larger bumps caused by water that has pushed up through the ice). We believe these areas can be leveled by plowing.
Our hope is to extend the course into Steningeviken and Rosersbergsviken, but if that is not possible, we will still be able to create a 25 km loop, allowing us to run both the 50 km full distance (two laps) and the 25 km half distance. If we are unable to enter Steningeviken or Rosersbergsviken, the course will include some serpentine sections close to Sigtuna.
